Ellison Penn
West (1902-1903) Ellison Penn West was born August 5, 1879, in Harris County, Texas. He died April 12, 1932. During Bro. West's service as Pastor, the Church became more involved in giving to Associational and State Missions and Buckner's Orphans Home. Sunday School was changed from 4 P.M. to 10 A.M. In an article entitled "Preacher West," J.M. Dawson noted that he was E.P. West's roommate in the home of Mrs. John S. Tanner during their Baylor days. Bro. West had been a successful businessman who gave up his career for a Christian vocation. He did not complete his studies at Baylor, but was described by Dawson as "an inspiring example to ... young men who must resist strong secular appeals to surrender themselves to the sacrificial Christian vocation." |
