M.E. Williamson (1922-1926)

M.E. Williamson was born in 1896 in Alabama. He died August 14, 1980.It was during his period of ministry, in 1924, that one of the most traumatic events in the history of Hewitt Baptist Church occurred. Though there is no record of it in the minutes of the Church, those who were there at the time vividly recalled the church literally being shaken when a strong wind blew the building off its foundation during an overnight storm. For nearly thirty years, this structure had served as sanctuary and educational building. Sunday School classes had met in each corner and in the center of the building. Something precious had been lost; but, as is always true for God's people, from trauma came triumph: a new building which contained not only a Sanctuary but two Sunday School classrooms.
